On May 5, 2016, Kristen Johansen, Interim BBMB Department Chair, announced the receipts of two LAS awards for 2016 by faculty and staff at BBMB.
The LAS Award for Excellence in Graduate Mentoring was presented to Professor Jorgen Johansen in recognition of his effectiveness as a professor who serves as a mentor and who strives to enrich the student-professor relationship through support and attention to detail to help students finish their work in a timely and scholarly manner.
The LAS P&S Award for Excellence in Information Technology was presented to Herman Huang, Systems Support Specialist, in recognition of his work in the field of Information Technology and demonstrated excellence in the responsibilities of his position with BBMB.
Congratulations to Jorgen and Herman for these outstanding achievements and best wishes for continued success.
2016 ASBMB Best Thematic Poster Award
Adrienne Smith received the $250 award for the best thematic poster as an outstanding research presentation at the 2016 Annual American Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology meeting in San Diego held April 2-6, 2016.
The theme of Adrienne’s poster was, “Glycoscience in Biology”, and titled “Mutagenesis Study to Reveal Important Determinants of XXT2 Catalytic Activity”. It should be noted that this award was not part of the undergraduate competition, but the general poster presentations that included graduate students, postdocs, and PIs.
Micevic Receives Soros Fellowship
From a field of 1,143 applicants, Goran Micevic is one of 30 recipients chosen to receive the 2016 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans — a fellowship for graduate students that are immigrants or children of immigrants that show potential to make significant contributions to American society, culture, or their academic field.
