Girton named University Professor
Jack Girton is a 22-year veteran instructor and research scientist, has bene named a University Professor at Iowa State. He helped shape ISU's genetics curriculum, earning teaching excellence awards along the way. Girton has held many faculty leadership positions, including Faculty Senate president, and served on numerous committees and task forces.
NIH Competitive Renewal Grant
Yeon-Kyun Shin, professor, was recently awarded a
$1.1 million compettive renewal grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH), National Institute for General Medical Sciences, for
his project, "Yeast SNARE assembly and membrane fusion." The four-year grant begins
July 1, 2007.
Rao named chair of ISU Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology Department
Guru Rao has been named the interim chair of the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology at Iowa State University, effective Sept. 1. Rao, professor of biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology, joined the department in 2006. He received his doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Mysore, India, and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from Gauhati University, India. Full
