Scholarships
The scholarship opportunities listed here are made possible by generous
financial donations from friends, alumni, and current and former faculty
members who support undergraduate education and students in the Department
of BBMB. All members of the department are grateful for this generous
support.
Scholarships for Entering Freshmen Students
Department of BBMB Freshman Scholarship
Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership, and participation
in high school and community acitivities, and demonstrated future promise
in biochemistry or biophysics. All entering Biochemistry, Biophysics, and AgBiochemistry majors are reviewed for
this award by the Scholarship Committee during the spring semester preceding enrollment,
and awards are announced in April.
No application is necessary.
Amount: $500
Number Offered: One
or more, depending on available funds.
John H. Weber Family Scholarship
Selection is based on academic merit, leadership and participation in
high school and community activities, and a promise of future achievement
in biochemistry and biophysics. All entering Biochemistry, Biophysics, and AgBiochemistry majors are reviewed for
this award by the Scholarship Committee during the spring semester preceding enrollment,
and awards are announced in April. This scholarship is awarded annually in
two installments, at the beginning of the fall and spring terms. The
scholarship may be renewable in the second year pending maintenance of 3.0
grade point average and available funds at the time of the initial award.
Amount: $1,000 - $2,000
Number Offered: One or two, depending on available funds
Application Deadline: March 15
Application Requirements: Applicant must be admitted
to ISU as a Biochemistry, Biophysics, or AgBiochemistry major prior to the deadline; completed application received by deadline .

Scholarships for Continuing Students
All currently-enrolled undergraduate students in the Department of BBMB
are considered automatically for each of the following department scholarships
and awards. Awards are announced in the spring at the annual departmental
awards luncheon held in the Molecular Biology Building Atrium. Scholarships
are awarded on a funds-available basis.
American Institute of Chemistry (AIC) Certificate
Awardees are selected on the bases of academic achievement, academic
promise, and contribution to the department through participation in
department activities.
BBMB Department Scholarship
Awardees are selected on the bases of academic achievement, academic
promise, and contribution to the department through participation in
department activities.
Hayward Goodspeed Award
Awardees are selected on the bases of academic achievement, academic
promise, and contribution to the department through participation in
department activities.
Dexter French Scholarship
This award is made possible by a contribution to the department from
the family of the late Dr. Dexter French, the former Chair of the Department
of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Awardees are selected on the bases of
academic achievement, academic promise, and contribution to the department
through participation in department activities.
Chad Hoffman Research Award
This award is made to an undergraduate who is actively involved in research
with a faculty member of the Department of BBMB. This award is not resticted
to those majoring in biochemistry or biophysics. The principal criterion
is involvement in research as demonstrated by specific accomplishments
such as publications or submitted ma nuscripts. Nominations shouuld
be submitted to the department scholarship committee by a faculty member
in the Department of BBMB.
Jack and Carole Horowitz Scholarship
This award is provided by Dr. Jack Horowitz and his family. Dr. Horowitz,
Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry, served a long and distinguished
career in the Department of BBMB, including serving as the Chair of
the department. Awardees are selected on the bases of academic achievement,
academic promise, and contribution to the department through participation
in department activities.
Donald and Margaret Graves Scholarship
Dr. Donald Graves and his family provide this award. Dr. Graves is the
former Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Awardees
are selected on the bases of academic achievement, academic promise,
and contribution to the department through participation in department
activities.
Rob Stupka Memorial Scholarship
This award is provided by Bob Stupka in memory of his son, Rob Stupka. The recipient of this award shall be majoring in Biochemistry or Biophysics. Awardees are selected on the basis of academic achievement and quality research participation.
