Title: Order from chaos: how unstructured proteins control RNA decay
Abstract: Our lab is interested in RNA biology, specifically control of mRNA decay in normal and virally infected cells. Removal of the mRNA cap structure is a critical step in RNA degradation pathways, which are controlled by a dense network of protein-protein interactions. Processing enzymes and cofactors are replete with intrinsically disordered regions that are required to promote the degradation of thousands of mRNAs in cells. I will present recent work on the conformational control of mRNA decapping by Dcp2 and show how intrinsically disordered regions can couple regulatory conformational changes to the formation of biological condensates.
