Abstract:  Cell migration plays a fundamental role in various physiological processes, such as embryonic development, wound healing, and immune responses. Formins, a family of actin-nucleating proteins, have emerged as crucial regulators of cell migration. My research is aimed at understanding the roles of specific formins that regulate different F-actin networks. We seek to characterize their expression and function in a variety of cells to determine whether different modes of migration require unique sets of formins or more broadly F-actin regulators to sense and transmit cytoskeletal forces during cell migration. We also explore the signaling pathways and molecular mechanisms through which these formins modulate actin dynamics to facilitate cellular movement. This research underscores the significance of unraveling the intricate interplay between different formins family members and cell motility, with the aim of advancing our understanding of these processes and potentially identifying novel therapeutic strategies.
