SUMMARY:BBMB Seminar - Alesia Tietze\, Associate Professor\; University of
Gothenburg - Peptide chemical engineering: from substrate-derived inhibito
 rs to bioconjugation techniques
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Peptide chemical engineering gained substantial relevance in th
e field of diagnostics and therapeutics.&nbsp\;The rapid development of dr
ug-resistant bacteria is a serious healthcare threat that prompted the exp
loration of new antibacterial targets. Targeting bacterial virulence\, ins
tead of developing bactericidal compounds\, became a promising strategy to
block pathogenicity by disarming pathogens without affecting bacterial vi
ability. Resulting in less selective pressure on the development of antibi
otic resistance. Recently\, we have reached a milestone in targeting an es
sential virulence factor of Gram-positive pathogenic bacteria\, i.e. S. au
reus&nbsp\;Sortase A (SrtA)\, which has remained an unmet challenge for ma
 ny years.\n\nMore information at: https://www.bbmb.iastate.edu/event/2023/
