Tesia Posekany (left), graduate student in the Nick Lauter Lab/Plant Pathology and Microbiology, and Marit Nilsen-Hamilton (right), professor of Biochemistry, Biophyics and Molecular Biology, were presented the Richard B. Hall Good Citizenship Award in June 2017.

Beginning in 2017, The Genetics and Genomics Graduate Program established the annual Richard B. Hall Good Citizenship Award for graduate students and staff.

Rick graduated with a B.S. in Forestry Management in 1969 from Iowa State University, and received his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding/Plant Genetics (Forestry) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1974. He joined the faculty of Iowa State’s Forestry department, now known as the Natural Resource Ecology and Management, in 1974 and was with ISU for 42 years in genetic research and teaching. He was a proud member of the Friends of Ada Hayden Heritage Park, a supporter of the Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees program, and lead many undergraduate students at the Forestry Camps. His internationally known poplar research program earned him the Society of American Foresters Fellow in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to genetic improvements in poplars for the bioenergy industry.
